What causes twisted gut in pigs in a grow-finish barn, and what can help prevent it?

Unfortunately this occurs much too frequently in the best hogs in the finishing barn. A definitive cause is not known, but some things that have been discussed are seeing it occur more frequently in deep chested white pigs that have been recently moved to a new pen or have had the feeders run out recently. The pigs tend to over eat following the feeders being empty and then an increased incidence of twisted gut occurs.
